I Heart Organising: Making sense of a drawer

For new readers, I recently moved house.

Well, not exactly very recently. I moved my Melbourne house to Adelaide in Feb 2012. Then I moved my Murrayville house to the same Adelaide house in Dec 2012. So, I guess it’s kinda recently. Anyways, what I’m trying to get at is that we’ve moved into a really nice house. I mean, really nice house. And for the first time, I actually feel like making the house look pretty. I actually want to have our house looking beautiful and like a magazine. Not that it’s really all that possible, given our two very furry kitties and my tendency to not put things away… but I’ll try.

So I’ll be sharing all the little things I do around the house to make it all look pretty. Given I am now unemployed, I will be doing everything on a budget that is close to non-existant. Which will be great fun!

Today’s project didn’t really need any money. (It totally could, though.)

organising

Argh.

I started out stacking all my shirts upwards. This worked alright for a few months until I had to combine both my wardrobes into one tiny space in Adelaide. Hm. It turned out to be a bit of a disaster. I couldn’t tell what was at the bottom, rummaging through to find that one perfect shirt / top meant mucking up the entire top pile… it just wasn’t working.

Once I decided it wasn’t working, it was a simple thing to fix. Empty all the clothes out, refold them and sort them by colour. Repack.

organising

I don’t have the amazing Tshirt Folder (remember I said something about how I -could- have spent money?), so my tops aren’t all the same size. No matter. I plan on constructing the Tshirt folder soon, so stay tuned!

Isn’t the end result so much more pleasing? I can now see everything I have in the drawer, and it’s so much neater too. Admittedly, not as neat as it could be if my folding skills were better, but I do confess that I’m a hanger sort of girl.

Good on you! That looks really neat and easy to see what you’ve got. I’ve had to do the same for my BM leggings, which have overtaken my hosiery drawer.

This is what I need to do. I need to cull and declutter so that my drawers look as neat as your end result. Also, everyone needs a tshirt folder!

You can make one quite easily! I’ll show how soon, hopefully. Thank you, I don’t know how long for my drawers are going to stay that neat!

Haha, I only do it annually too but I think I’m going to try and make sure I do little bits of it everyday to ensure the house stays neat!

Omg I recently did this using pretty boxes in my wardrobe so my shirts weren’t stacked. Now I pull out the box and can see all my shirts!

Not the best video quality but I love all the upgrades at the end! Must build this.

I recently moved from Sydney to Adelaide and am still working through unpacking. It’s such a pain! Our dining room is just filled with boxes. I’m normally so organised, but after moving I’m so over boxes that unpacking is the last thing I want to do hehehe

Ooh, welcome to Adelaide! Don’t worry, I’m still unpacking, one year later! An interstate move is such a pain, yes? (I moved Melbourne to Adelaide, haha)
