Road to Confidence: Be Fresh from Be. Winery

Remember this look?

I decided that I just had to try the one that looked the most-out-there first as I was feeling particularly adventurous yesterday. Plus, looking at the style cards just got me thinking of those Limecrime eyeliners I got an age ago. Experiment time? Why yes, sirree!

It just so happened that Sherry was around as well and there is nothing more relaxing than spending an afternoon with your girlfriend pretending to be makeup artists. She went for a more natural and effortlessly beautiful look, while me…. well. See for yourself.

I used:

  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion
  • Urban Decay Naked Palette
  • LimeCrime Liquid Eyeliner in Citreuse and 6th Element
  • Tony Moly Liquid Black Eyeliner
  • False Lashes from Eylure (can’t remember which style)
  • Jane Iredale Purepressed Blush in Barely Rose
  • Innoxa Lovely Lips lipstick in Passionflower

Okay, granted, it is really quite different from the original inspiration. I actually think that this look is quite wearable if you left off the orange eyeliner from the bottom eye. What do you think? Would you try it?

If you’d like to try it, remember that there is a video tutorial that I have embedded above that can guide you through the step by step of the look. Truthfully, I didn’t follow it. I just went nuts on my face, as you can see.

I also didn’t use any foundation as… well… I really don’t use foundation or BB creams anymore. /lazy

Have a glass with me, and let me know what you think!

Check out Be Winery! Wine provided for consideration, I was not paid to play with makeup. (Would be cool if I was!)

The Road to Confidence: Bright Green Eyes

This is a sponsored post.

It’s been awhile since my last Road to Confidence post, and indeed it has been awhile since I had the time to sit down to play with my makeup collection. It’s so easy to just let everything fall to the wayside once life gets hectic. I know that when I got stressed back in September, my good eating habits all went poof!

Still, we gotta take the time to chill at some point, and so when Sherry came over last weekend, we took the time to play with makeup and this was the look that I ended up with. I have to warn you first that the lighting at my house was really quite bad, and since I’m too poor to get my photography lights right now, we’ve just had to go with what we had.

I fell in love with the look, to be honest. I had been inspired by the amazing Megan from Make Up Store who had the most beautiful eyes at our previous #ABBM and had vowed to try something similar. This was my take on it! I love those lashes as well. So incredibly soft and so crazily out there!

In fact, I loved it so much, I decided to film a video tutorial on it. Hope you enjoy!

Did you notice the little naughty thing I did in my video? I admitted to one of my biggest naughty moves of all time: I don’t use foundation or bb cream anymore.

Why? Because I don’t feel that I need to cover my skin up anymore.
How? Because I have been paying attention to skincare and actually cleaning my face properly.

Many girls tell me that they can’t possibly walk out without any makeup, but have a think about it. If you have good skin, why would you need foundation? So the key isn’t in getting amazing foundations, the key is in getting better skincare products. Simple, really.

I’ll leave you with a few more photos from the night. Not exactly the best, but hey, I had fun and that’s the main point right? Let me know if you decide to try this look, I’d love to see your version!

By the way, the giveaway date has been extended! Rafflecopter will once more be opened for entries till the 5th of November so if you haven’t entered, here’s your 2nd chance! Be quick as you aren’t going to get another chance after this!

The Road to Confidence: Eyeliner-rific Halloween Makeup Look

This is a sponsored post.

Halloween is coming!

I’m not normally one to do up themed makeup looks, but I must admit to having a soft spot for Halloween. I think that it’s just such a cool idea! Last year, I had a Halloween dinner party with a few of my friends. Not sure if I’m going to do that again this year, I hope so!

I’ve also fallen in love with video, it seems. I have always hated the sound of my own voice, but these videos that don’t have me talking seem to sit alright with me. I’m also currently working on my first ever youtube channel (oh-em-gee), so this whole filming gig seems to have really taken over my life! So have another video!

Anyways, I digress.

I love liquid eyeliners, as I’m sure you all know by now. I cannot get enough of them. This look is all about liquid eyeliners. There’s virtually nothing else, if you don’t count the primers and bases! Oh and good skin. You always need good skin. Using Clearasil Perfectawash to cleanse your face is a good way to ensure that you get good skin.

Products used:

    Face Primer: Benefit -The Porefresional
Eye Primer: Urban Decay – Primer Potion
Foundation: Adderton – Loose Powder Mineral
Liquid Eyeliner: Urban Decay , Maybelline, Dollywink, Limecrime, Mirenesse
    Lipstick: MAC Heartless

It’s not a hard makeup look at all. In fact, compared to all the other makeup tutorials out there, this is drop dead simple. But given how time poor we all are these days, a quick simple look is sometimes the key. I think I rather spend more time enjoying Halloween with my friends than fussing with my makeup!

Anyways, Giveaway Time! I have been fluffing on about Clearasil Perfectawash enough. I think you should be given a chance to try it too. I adore the automated functionality. I love gadgets. Who doesn’t!? So I’m giving away 3x Clearasil Perfectawash. To you. From me. Awwwwww.

Disclaimer: Actually it’s from Clearasil but it’s the thought that counts right?!

And because I’d really like to streamline giveaways, I’m going to trial Rafflecopter with this giveaway:

  • The Road to Confidence: [FOTD] Pink & Purple Wonderland

Sometimes, I wish I didn’t procrastinate so much. I’d achieve so much more if I weren’t such a master at procrastination.
Take this shot for example. I procrastinated so much at taking the photo that I missed out on natural light and out of the 100 photos or so taken in my terrible excuse of a bathroom, only one was deemed worthy enough to be put on the blog.

    I kid you not.

You might remember the Fashion Wannabe Post that I did a few days ago. I showed you my dress, but not the look that went with it, so here it is!

    Here’s what I used:

    Bobbi Brown – BB Cream
    Urban Decay – Primer Potion
Beauty Pro Cosmetics – Crazy Colour Palette
LimeCrime – Liquid Eyeliner in Quill (Black) and Lunar (White)
Physician Formula – Happy Booster™ Glow & Mood Boosting Blush in Rose*
    Ciccone Cosmetics – Voluptus*

For the newcomer to this blog, The Road to Confidence is my irregular series that shares a series of different makeup looks that I’ve come up with. It can range from the wild and crazy looks to the normal day-to-day wear and there is no real planning, no rhyme nor reason to what goes into this series. It’s just me, playing with makeup, trying to gain more skills and more confidence.

Road to Confidence: Sick as a Dog FOTD

You might remember that I was sick sometime back. I had a meeting that I couldn’t beg off so I attempted to use makeup to cover up how sick I looked and felt.
Looking at this photo, I think I succeeded!

I also like my hair in braids, but the only braids I know how to do are little girl braids down the front. I really suck at hair styling – who wants to volunteer as my stylist?

Tony Moly Eggpore Silky Smooth Balm
    MAC BB Cream
    Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion
    Hello Kitty Liquid Eyeliner
Clinique Milly Spring Palette for cheeks and eyes
    Maybelline Baby Lips Lip Balm

Luckily I’m a lot better now. Hooray!

Road to Confidence: Girl on Fire – Inspired by Hunger Games

It’s been awhile since the last Road to Confidence post. I fell off the tracks a little bit due to lack of inspiration but I’m hoping to do more now! I love playing with makeup though I’m not much good at it, so hopefully I gain more confidence through my Road to Confidence segment. That’s the idea anyways.

This look, as the title suggest, was inspired by Hunger Games. I first read this trilogy last year when the high school students in my school had to read this book for literature circle. They started raving about it and out of curiosity, I picked up the books and started reading.

And went on reading. And reading. And reading. And didn’t let go till the last word in the last book was read.

I’ve been hooked on Hunger Games ever since. The premise, the story line, the plot, the way the author has painted the words… Amazing. While I’ve been told that it can be disturbing to some, gruesome to others, I have not found it to be so myself. Maybe I just have a stronger stomach for gore than I thought.

I went to watch the movie with much excitement and anticipation. But I must confess to being quite disappointed with the makeup in the movie. Even though the movie boast of incredible numbers going through the makeup and hair tents, it just wasn’t as grand nor as colourful as I thought it’d have been. Katniss’ makeup in particular could have reflected more of concept ‘ Girl on Fire’.

So I thought I’d give it a go. I kept it fairly conservative as I only had a short amount of time to work on this look. I’ve also added in a Before and After, just for kicks.

I aimed this look at Katniss interview session before she went into the Games. I used colours that I would normally associate with fire and added in a slight accent with a red lip pencil to shape the flames a little. I would have added in sparkling gems under my eyes and flames as well if I could but then I didn’t know where my gems were in the mess that was my interstate moving.

And since the concealer I was using (test running another one) still wasn’t doing much good at hiding my dark circles, I decided to join the dark side. (Har. Har.) and added dark reddish brown shadows under my eyes. Big dramatic lashes completed the look, along with brilliant red lips.

Would this look had better suited her interview dress? I don’t know. But I know that this would have been a far better representation of Girl on Fire in my books. But then I may be bias.

    What do you think?

The Road to Confidence – the Clinique Way – a Spring look.

Continuing on in the Spring theme for my little segment: The Road to Confidence.

Today, I had a fairly simple mission. Using as many Clinique products as possible, I’d create a Spring look that would also be as sweat resistant as possible.

I wasn’t entirely sure what Clinique products I had, so it did take me awhile to figure this out, but in the end I managed to pull a look together. So here’s what I used in this look:

  • Limited Edition Milly for Clinique Pretty In Prints Compact
  • Clinique High Impact Mascara
  • Clinique Chubby Stick – Chunky Cherry
  • Face of Australia Face Based Primer
  • Skin79 BB Cream
  • Coastal Scents lashes
  • Revlon Lash Glue
  • O.G. Liquid Eyeliner
  • Urban Decay Primer Potion

  • What do you think? It’s a lightweight makeup look. I could hardly feel any of it on! The eyeshadows were all from the Pretty in Prints Compact, as was the blush. I adored the colour of the blush – so refreshing!

BB Cream is much lighter than foundation and often comes with ready SPF. You won’t get any melting lipsticks by sticking with the Clinique’s Chubby Stick as it is a tinted lip balm. But oh, what a lip balm! I wasn’t sold to the chubby sticks before this, but chunky cherry changed my mind. And maybe, even my life.

I love this look. I’m eager to do it again – it’s very much Spring, no?

The Road to Confidence – Va va voom!

It’s Spring!! Hooray, I can’t wait to get more colour into my surroundings! I tend to add colour into my daily wardrobe anyways since I really cannot stand dressing in dull colours for winter. But it’s nice having the flowers back again. The only thing I hate about the warmer weather is well… the warmth. And the insects and bugs it brings with it.

I wanted to try a cutesy look, but instead of planning it out like an organized person would, I just picked up my brushes and my makeup and went with the flow. The result? Well. It’s a bit of cute with a touch of Va va voom, courtesy of the lashes!

    What do you think?

I’m quite in love with these lashes. They are from Coastal Scents, but don’t worry, I’ll do a review on them soon. Unlike the normal lashes I get from Asia, I did have to cut these ones to fit my very short eyes. Ah well, such is the fate of a tiny asian…

Tell me what you think of this look! I’m personally loving the blue and pink combination. Shall have to try different ways of putting these two colours together!

The Road to Confidence – begins with a red lipstick

I used to be such a red lips fiend.

My philosophy used to be – you are putting something on your lips anyways, why put something like pink and nude? You want it to stand out, that’s why you are putting it on!

Of course, this doesn’t always work, and when it does, it’s not for everybody either.

    But it worked for me.

Whenever I put on red lipstick, I feel empowered. I feel powerful. I feel like a woman. I feel strong.

For me, the road to confidence would most definitely have to start from that red lipstick.

The top right hand pic shows what was used in this look. It’s a fairly simple look. I wasn’t planning on photographing it, and I was actually practicing a few makeup skills. So there’s no foundation, there’s no face primer, that’s a bare face right there. I apologize for the pore-rific look. But I loved the look of the lipstick. It was enough to make me feel confident enough to take the photos to share with you. Even though I have the worst case of double chin going on right there. But it doesn’t matter. That red lipstick gave me the courage to embrace it. These photos aren’t perfect. They are not polished. But they are me. The me that is full of flaws. And that’s alright too.

And that jumper I’m wearing. Well loved, very worn out, and just about the rattiest thing you will ever see in my wardrobe. But that’s alright too. It’s comfort.

Humans are full of flaws, aren’t they? But that’s what makes each one of us beautiful. It’s not the perfection that makes us shine. It’s the flaws.

The Road to Confidence: The violet way – v.3 – ooh I have buns!

Ahh! I’m late, I’m late, I’m late for a very important date!

I’m late in posting this, because I’ve had such a busy morning!
But it’s here now, hope you like it!

This was one of the hairstyles Violet tried on me to help me see that there is quite an endless stream of possiblities that I could have with my hair. She’s convinced that the thickness of my hair is a good thing – I’m convinced otherwise!

Anyways, have a look at the photos, and let me know what you think of this hairstyle on me?

And if you want to know how to do this hairstyle yourself… have a watch of this. (And please excuse the incredibly unglamorous shot of me yawning. I’m obviously not a lady!)

Violet also had a very amusing photo of the day up – Check it out here
