Experiencing Guinot’s Hydraclean Facial – 30 minutes for a new face!

I’m not new to the world of facials. I’ve done quite a number now, but it wasn’t till this year that I started really paying attention to what facials do for me. Like, really do.

I used to think facials were a bit of a fluff. A waste of money. Why would you want to pay a small fortune just so somebody else could wash your face for you? But the truth is, facials are not just that. It is a lot, a lot more. After experiencing the Guinot Hydraclean facial, I can definitely tell you that facials have won me over and with a good facial, it is worth every cent.

Let’s talk a little bit about Guinot. Guinot is a French skincare brand with a name that I often forget how to pronounce. Founded in 1963 by Rene Guinot (a chemical engineer!) , it found its way into my heart sometime last year. I was especially enamoured by their spray on sun-screen, which I will be telling you all about, once summer gets here again. (But if you really want to know, don’t wait for my tales, go buy it! They are amazing and can be found here.

Anyways, I digress. Back to the facial.

Sometime ago in May, I was invited (along with some of the other Adelaide beauty bloggers) to learn more about Guinot and to experience the hydraclean facial. This is a deep cleansing treatment that is touted to give you clear and radiant skin in just 30 minutes. Big claims, so we were here to put it to the test.

Our venue host for the night was AJ Skin Consultants and I was quite taken by the quaint little cottage the salon was based in. Inside, it was cozy and quite serene, which is befitting for a beauty salon. Take note of the names, ladies! For if you are after a Guinot hydraclean facial, this salon will soon become your best friend.

Onto this miracle facial.

The facial is a 2 step treatment. Namely:

Step 1. A deep cleanse using a thermoclean electrode heating up to 42°c to stimulate deeper into the skin, this is used in conjunction with guinot skincare products specifically selected to suit your skin.
Step 2. A massage which aids drainage and restarts the skin micro-circulation. The massage is carried out with a serum which contains Allantoin and Witch Hazel Extract.

It sounds simple, but really, there are many steps to the procedure. I was amazed by the amount of care and detail my therapist for the night, Laura, went into. She was gentle and made sure that I was feeling at ease all the time. Much care was taken as well to ensure that the heat of the electrode at 42°c was not too hot for me to handle. The entire experience was really quite blissful and even with all the girls crowded around my bed staring intently at my face full of pores, I felt quite relaxed!

And for the curious cats playing at home, the reason for the heated thermoclean electrode is so the sweat glands are activated and triggered into a state of hyper secretion. This allows for the pores to be cleaned and toxins to be gotten rid of. The heat also aids the treatment products and allows deeper penetration. This results in clearer, brighter and a more hydrated skin. And all this happens in 30 minutes. Whoosh!

I’m going to put it out there right now, I was skeptical. The hydraclean facial is a 30 minutes facial, what exactly can be achieved in that 30 minutes? Miracles don’t normally happen to me, so I was skeptical as to whether or not I would see a difference. After a day’s worth of work, my skin looked the way I felt, tired, rough and ready for bed. If there was a good time to really test out the limitations of the facial’s capabilities, this would be it.

I feel a little like one of those chefs on cook shows: “And after 30 minutes, you open the oven door and ….”

But in this case, it’s not the oven door being opened, nor is it a cake being baked. It is my face, being cleansed of its dirty toxins and breaking free fresh and radiant – or did it? See for yourself:

To say I’m enthralled is an understatement. 30 minutes later, and my skin has emerged a new person. It was visibly more radiant, cleaner, and I positively glowed. The hydration was unmistakable, and my skin just looked so plump and bouncy, much like a baby’s bottom! And it wasn’t just me who saw the difference. The other beauty bloggers present all expressed their disbelief at the 360° change my skin had gone through. Apparently my skin could look alive, who woulda thunk.

So, ladies, if you need a quick pick-me-up, forget the booze and the coffee. Hop into AJ’s and get yourself a Guinot Hydraclean Facial. It will be the best lunch break you ever had. Seriously.

Stephen Adderton: A man after my own heart.

I first met Stephen at Beauty Bloggers Utopia 2012. A dashing man, he had came to introduce his range of cosmetics, Adderton, to us and two things struck a chord with me.

1. He spoke with passion and his eyes lit up when he spoke of his products. He spoke my language – the language of passion.
2. His range of cosmetics included a rather large amount of amazing red lipsticks. Yum.

He invited us to go by his salon to further test and experience his products. Like a woman in love, I heeded his call, and on the Tuesday afternoon of my very short Sydney trip found me in the middle of Rozelle, eating my tarts from Bourke St Bakery as I was too early for my appointment with Stephen.

Adderton Beauty is quite a small range of cosmetics. They are working on expanding it and their upcoming luxury skincare line has the most exquisite bottles you will ever see on a skincare line. I started out having only eyes for their red lipsticks (oh, baby!) but ended up being incredibly taken by their pressed powder as well. It was like magic. It covered up my dark circles without help of a concealer. I was enthralled.

Stephen himself was a delight to speak with. So much passion, so much love, he was just so full of energy I couldn’t help falling in love with him over and over again. Don’t worry, kev was also there. And he knows how I collect passionate people much like how a magpie collects shiny things. I just can’t help being drawn to people like Stephen!

The makeover that Stephen did on me was different. While the red lipstick was right up my alley, the way he did my eyes was quite different and of course, the eyeliner was a lot thinner than what I was used to. It was quite an interesting makeover, really, as I haven’t seen myself like this before. I have to admit, however, that I think I have finally grown out of my love affair with gloss. Sticky, sticky, gloss….

The quality of Adderton cosmetics is something you cannot go past. I always did like cosmetic ranges that are smaller. The big companies like Mac and Estee Lauder always struck me as cold and impersonal. As I grow older, I find myself valuing the personal contact more and more. The older I get, the less real people seem to be, and that always saddens me. But Adderton retains that personal touch while still producing the best quality cosmetics – now that’s what I call dedication.

Event: Nuffnang Adelaide Blogger Meetup @ Cikolatte, Prospect, Adelaide

Every once in a while, I dust off my lazy bones and get my act together to organize a Nuffnang Adelaide General Blogger meetup. This usually happens around April or May in the year, then I get all busy with events for other hobbies that I completely forget. Hopefully this year will be better!

Over the weekend, I organized one such event at Cikolatte. It turned out to be the perfect spot as Cikolatte had an area towards the back of the shop that was fenced away and as luck would have it, the entire spot was reserved for us, so it was like we had our own little private room!

I met a few new faces that day, with notable mention to Natasha from Playing House and Kamini from Opshop Diva. I was blown away by Natasha’s bubbliness and Kamini and myself just click like old friends! In fact, Kamini and myself are already plotting to bring to you something special from the op shops around Adelaide, so do stay tune! (See, even when I’m out on an event, I think about what I can bring to you guys, awwww.)

People photos really aren’t my thing, so have some food photos instead!

It was a really good afternoon of lots of talk, chitchat and laughter. I learnt new things, got to catch up with friends and made new ones. We talked about food, about Adelaide, about the blogging scene in other cities and shared our admiration for the lovely food in Cikolatte. I do have to apologize to Kamini tho, who really wanted to get a group photo with everybody, but people were camera shy and in the end as the afternoon wore on, the cameras became forgotten.

Still, I managed to get a snap with Kamini, yay!

Incidental outfit post, here’s a rundown:

Cream long sleeve – gift from mum.
Brown bowed jumper – purchase from Taiwan (Xi Men Ding)
Pink Parfait skirt – Baby, The Stars Shine Bright
Strawberry pink socks – Vic Market
Red shoes – purchase from Taiwan (Raohe Nightmarket)

Some of us lazed about for the rest of the afternoon till Cikolatte closed up. So much thanks to Cikolatte for not kicking us out! Hehe.

Thank you to everybody for coming!

Adelaide Beauty Conference

Some of you with eagle eyes might have noticed that I actually had a link to the new Adelaide Beauty Conference website up last night. Indeed, the conference now comes with bonus website!!

There’s only one month to go, and I’m getting quite excited! There’s still quite a lot more that will be released on the website, so keep an eye out for it.

As always, can’t thank the people who have put in a helping hand for this event enough… I will do a full event report and a full acknowledgement post after the event, but for now, you know who you are!

Illamasqua Counter Opening – Myers Melbourne

Definitely late to the party here, but it’s been so busy around here lately that I haven’t had much time at the computer, let alone blog.

Why busy? Well.. if you’ve been following my twitter then you would have known! But really it’s because I was recently offered a new job and it involves some uprooting and moving across the state. I’ll still be in dear ol’ Victoria (the state I love the most in Aussieland!) but right on the border of VIC and SA. Because of that I have been crazily preparing for the move.. which resulted in lack of computer time!

Anyways, let’s talk about Illamasqua. Have you ever seen such a vibrant brand of makeup? Such colours, such vibrancy, such creativity! I was blown away by the concepts that this makeup brand came up with and was eagerly looking forward to the day that Melbourne would see its first Illamasqua counter. With a tagline “makeup for your alter-ego”, can you blame me for being so excited?

So when I heard that Illamasqua was opening up their first Myer Melbourne counter, I was elated. Then to top it off, I was amongst the lucky few bloggers who were invited along to the counter launch, you could have heard me cheer from a mile away!

Look at those amazingly vibrant colours! My mind was dancing with all the possibilities, and I have to say that ever since my visit to the counter and that quick brush with my ‘alter-ego’, I have been constantly hit by new inspiration on how to use colours and makeup supplies to create art. I can’t say that I’m ever going to be any good at it, but it’s always good to day dream.

And I really like how Illamasqua embraces everybody. There is no such thing as “you don’t have an alter-ego” or “these colours won’t work for you”. Illamasqua welcomes everyone and the MUAs worked hard to help everybody get in touch with their other side. If nothing else, they showed us how we could use these colours to add a little spice and sparkle to our every day life. And if I wasn’t already deeply in loved and addicted to liquid eyeliners, my brilliant MUA, Gillian, sealed my fate by introducing me to the Precision Ink.

It was a really fun afternoon, with lots of girls laughing and squealing in delight. Illamasqua was warm and welcoming and was incredibly generous by providing drinks and sweets for the afternoon. After all, everybody needs a sugar high! To top an amazing afternoon out, Illamasqua even gifted everybody with a gift bag, which made me feel incredibly spoilt indeed.

Thank you to Illamasqua for the fabulous afternoon, and if you’d like to read what the other girls had to say about that day and Illamasqua please feel free to click on!
